A couple of weeks ago, we visited Grimes Mill Winery in Lexington. This was our first visit for over a year. It was a rainy day so we were inside but with social distancing we were still able to enjoy the visit relaxing with a glass of wine. With a wine list that includes Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, and some fruit wines, there’s something for every taste. Our favorite, though, was a Brunello, a medium bodied red wine made with an Italian grape. With a beautiful tasting room, it is a nice place to visit and enjoy some Italian style wines.
by adminVisitors to the Bourbon Trail in Bullitt County are often surprised by the number of wineries. Bullitt County is home to Brooks Hill Winery, MillaNova Winery, Wight-Meyer Vineyard and Winery, and Forest Edge Winery. Visitors will find good wine and will enjoy a good time while visiting.
Last month, we stopped at two of these wineries. When you enter Bullitt County from the north, the first of the wineries you will discover is Brooks Hill. They make one of our favorite wines, their Estate Reserve. It is a full-bodied red blend of Lemberger and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a unique wine as it is difficult to find Lemberger wines. They are also making a Tempranillo. If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it. Both of these reds are excellent examples of Kentucky’s dry reds.
In the southern end of the county, you will find Forest Edge. It is located near Kentucky’s Bernheim Forest. Forest Edge Winery has a wine list that includes a variety of wines both sweet and dry. From Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, they made some of our favorite wines. Visitors can relax and enjoy a great wine.
by adminSo many things have been going on that when I looked to see when I last wrote, I found it was over a month ago and April is ending. April has been a busy month. The cookbook is finished! Once the printing is completed, I will be letting everyone know about the scheduled signings and where it can be purchased. Beginning in late March up until last week, there was editing and working on photos. My mind was taken over.
Also, Spring has brought about some spring cleaning. We’ve been getting out a little bit more and visiting a few wineries. I’ll catch up with a few articles on some recent visits.
