Happy New Year from the Kentucky Wine Lover
by adminCelebrate the holidays with your favorite people and your favorite wines. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Best wishes from the Kentucky Wine Lover!
by adminIt’s almost that time of the year. Christmas is on its way! Deciding what wine to put on my list is so difficult. I really do love many different wines. But if I have to choose…….
Santa, please bring me a bottle of Cabernet Franc Reserve, from Lovers Leap Vineyards and Winery.
Of course, that’s my choice today. I reserve the right to change my mind!
Since you’re a wine lover, why don’t you share. What’s on your Christmas list?
by adminAll the wine experts have spent the last couple of weeks telling wine lovers which wines to choose for Thanksgiving Dinner. With the variety of foods served and the differences in our guests, my simple recommendation is choose your favorite wines. Whether your taste is red, white, or rosé, enjoying the wine is more important than obeying someone’s rules.
For those who would like a suggestion, a nice dry, or semi-dry Gewürztraminer or a Beaujolais Nouveau will enhance the flavors of that Thanksgiving turkey. For dessert, a nice sparkling wine will pair well with those favorite pumpkin and pecan pies. For the adventurous wine lovers, many wineries, including those in Kentucky, make a semi-sweet Cranberry during the fall that is really good. Brown County Winery in Nashville, Indiana makes a delicious, tart Cranberry Apple.
As you gather together with family and friends, enjoy the food, the wine and the time spent with loved ones. Remember to be thankful and take time to relax.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Kentucky Wine Lover!
by adminWinemaker and owner at Purple Toad Winery, Allen Dossey, was named Winemaker of the Year this year at the Indy International Wine Competition. Purple Toad also brought home 16 medals for its wines, including four double gold medals. This is a prestigious award in the wine world because Indy had over 2000 entries from 40 states, as well as 11 different countries.
Purple Toad Winery is located in Paducah and has been open for eight years. Their vineyard has been around for 19 years. The winery sells over 30 varieties, specializing in sweet wines. Owners Allen and June Dossey have been very involved in the Kentucky wine industry in recent years, traveling to festivals all over the state.
If you get the chance, you’ll want to give their wines a try. You’ll be happy you did. Besides, they also have one of the neatest names and labels in the state.

Cheers to all wine lovers! May 25, 2017 is National Wine Day. You probably remember that we celebrated February 18, this year as National Drink Wine Day. Now, happily, tomorrow is another special day for all of us wine lovers.
Dionysus and Bacchus, Greek and Roman gods of grapes and wines, would be proud to discover that modern wine lovers are still enjoying the drink of the gods. While most wine lovers enjoy wine one any old day, why waste a chance to pour a glass (or more) in celebration with your favorite drinking partner?
Happy National Wine Day! Here’s to you, may you always have good friends, good wine, and good days, Salute!

by adminEven though it doesn’t feel much like it today, spring is on the way. You can tell because March Madness starts today and wine events are on the calendar in Kentucky. While you’re enjoying those basketball games, enjoy a glass of Kentucky wine and toast your favorite Kentucky team. Our state’s basketball fans can choose between University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and for the first time Northern Kentucky University.
Wine loving basketball fans can also look ahead to a March wine event. On March 25th, sixteen of Central Kentucky’s wineries will open their doors for the 10th Annual Wine Barrel Tasting for the Springs, a fundraiser for McConnell Springs, the twenty-six acre natural historic park at the springs where the city of Lexington, Kentucky was named. The event is a self planned visit from 11 to 5 PM. Visitors can start at any of the participating wineries, pay the fee of $20 per person, receive a map, and choose their route to their chosen stops.
Springhill Winery & Plantation, Lovers Leap Vineyards & Winery, Horseshoe Bend Vineyard & Winery, Wildside Winery & Vineyard, Chrisman Mill Vineyards, Talon Winery & Vineyards, Jean Farris Winery & Bistro, Black Barn Winery, Equus Run Vineyards, Hamon Haven Winery, Prodigy Vineyards & Winery, Grimes Mill Winery, Chuckleberry Farm and Winery, McIntyre’s Winery & Berries, First Vineyard Winery and Rising Sons Winery are ready to open their doors to visitors. Many will have special options like food or maybe even a barrel tasting with the winemaker. A barrel tasting is a one ounce sample of wine that is still in the barrel awaiting bottling. Wine lovers get the chance to taste an early stage of their favorite wines.
