    • May 23rdNational Wine Day 2021

Heads up wine lovers! What is your favorite wine? As if you needed a reason to enjoy your favorite wine, now you have one! Tuesday, May 25, is National Wine Day.

Not to be confused with February 18 which was National Drink Wine Day. National Wine Day offers us a chance to applaud the development, the growth, and the spread of our favorite drink and of course to savor the flavors and aromas of our favorite wine.

Whether your choice is a well-known varietal like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, or Chardonnay, or you prefer a lesser known varietal such as Vignoles, Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin, or Norton doesn’t matter. Get ready, pour your wine, and raise a glass to the existence of wine.

Wine can turn any day into a celebration. Consider the old saying, “You can’t drink all day unless you start in the morning.”

    • May 23rdWineries are waking up

Kentucky, like other states, is experiencing a wake-up from a long, long winter. This year it isn’t just from the weather. Vaccinations are allowing people to feel freer and get back to enjoying their lives. Getting out, going places, and seeing their family and friends. At the same time wineries are welcoming more and more visitors, the vineyards are providing a show with those tiny buds that will grow into grapes as the season progresses.

In our case May has taken us to outdoor concerts at Brianza Gardens and Winery, and an afternoon of wine tasting at Forest Edge Winery and Brooks Hill Winery. We are making plans to visit some new wineries. The future is looking up.

    • May 1stBrianza and Jeff Blackburn Band

May Day and the Kentucky Derby; it was a beautiful spring day. We spent the evening enjoying some of our favorite wine and some of our favorite music at one of our favorite places.

Brianza Gardens and Winery is a perfect venue for an outdoor concert. Today was no exception. We enjoyed the music of Jeff Blackburn Band and great wine from Brianza.

A bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and songs from Jeff, Steve, and Britt was a perfect way to spend the evening!

    • Apr 30thGrimes Mill Winery

A couple of weeks ago, we visited Grimes Mill Winery in Lexington. This was our first visit for over a year. It was a rainy day so we were inside but with social distancing we were still able to enjoy the visit relaxing with a glass of wine. With a wine list that includes Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, and some fruit wines, there’s something for every taste. Our favorite, though, was a Brunello, a medium bodied red wine made with an Italian grape. With a beautiful tasting room, it is a nice place to visit and enjoy some Italian style wines.

    • Apr 30thBullitt County Wineries

Visitors to the Bourbon Trail in Bullitt County are often surprised by the number of wineries. Bullitt County is home to Brooks Hill Winery, MillaNova Winery, Wight-Meyer Vineyard and Winery, and Forest Edge Winery. Visitors will find good wine and will enjoy a good time while visiting.

Last month, we stopped at two of these wineries. When you enter Bullitt County from the north, the first of the wineries you will discover is Brooks Hill. They make one of our favorite wines, their Estate Reserve. It is a full-bodied red blend of Lemberger and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a unique wine as it is difficult to find Lemberger wines. They are also making a Tempranillo. If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it. Both of these reds are excellent examples of Kentucky’s dry reds.

In the southern end of the county, you will find Forest Edge. It is located near Kentucky’s Bernheim Forest. Forest Edge Winery has a wine list that includes a variety of wines both sweet and dry. From Sauvignon Blanc to  Cabernet Sauvignon, they made some of our favorite wines. Visitors can relax and enjoy a great wine.

    • Apr 30thApril was busy

So many things have been going on that when I looked to see when I last wrote, I found it was over a month ago and April is ending. April has been a busy month. The cookbook is finished! Once the printing is completed, I will be letting everyone know about the scheduled signings and where it can be purchased. Beginning in late March up until last week, there was editing and working on photos. My mind was taken over.

Also, Spring has brought about some spring cleaning. We’ve been getting out a little bit more and visiting a few wineries. I’ll catch up with a few articles on some recent visits.

    • Mar 21stRucca at Brianza

After a long year of the pandemic, finally fully vaccinated, we had our first night out enjoying a safe evening of wine and music at Brianza Gardens and Winery for a St. Patrick’s Day Party.

The Cabernet Sauvignon was excellent, as usual and the music provided by Rucca was great.

With original songs, as well as covers, such as Tyler Childers’ White House Road, Waylon’s Can’t You See, and Adele’s Rollin the Deep, they have an eclectic playlist with something for everyone. They also did one of our personal favorites, Pistol Annie’s Hell on Heels. Of course, one of the best was a tribute to the late, great John Prine with Angel from Montgomery. Solo sets were also special, like Lauren’s version of Wayfaring Stranger and Ashley’s cover of Blue Bayou.

We had a fun night out!

    • Feb 18thNational Drink Wine Day 2021

Remember the old song “Our Day Will Come“. For American wine lovers, our day has come. February 18 is National Drink Wine Day, so celebrate and enjoy!

Many of us are still staying home, avoiding crowds and social distancing, but the beauty of this day is you can do all that and still salute the day. It doesn’t require travel or crowds—just wine!

For just a moment forget the weather, the pandemic, politics, and all your worries, pour a glass of your favorite wine and commemorate National Wine Day! Salud!
