    • Aug 10thChrisman Mill Vineyards and Winery

Chrisman Mill Vineyards and Winery is the oldest operating winery in the state of Kentucky. Chris and Denise Nelson have created a winery that has grown and stood the test of time, remaining one of the best and most popular wineries in the state. They have expanded and are now a winery, a distillery, and a restaurant. You will want to plan a visit.

The winery is open now on Saturdays. Try their wine, their spirits, and their food. Pizza and tacos are available almost every Saturday. There are three Saturdays when they will be serving a full Fuego dinner. Check my link to their winery for information.

The pizza and tacos are amazing. Their wines are the great wines that everyone has come to expect. Hummingbird Distillery is now making rum, made from blackstrap molasses, a grape brandy, and a grappa. You won’t want to miss trying these or one of their cocktails. If you are able to get to one of the dinners at Fuego, you will want to go back again and again.

    • Jun 2ndFarmer and Frenchman Winery

While staying in Kentucky, we wanted to get away for a  couple of days to celebrate our anniversary. As wine lovers we decided to visit a winery and looked for a place to go. Their website says eat, taste, and stay. and  Farmer and Frenchman Winery lives up to that billing. We spent two nights in a cabin at Farmer and Frenchman Winery, had a pizza from room service one evening and an exceptional meal at the restaurant the other evening as well as an appetizer and glass of wine on our arrival.

This is a relatively new winery in the state, but is a really good addition to our state’s wineries. While everything was nice, the best part of the trip was the excellent and friendly service. Everyone there went out of the way to make our visit a good one. Just outside of Henderson, Farmer and Frenchman is a great place to visit.

    • Jun 2ndRucca outdoors at Brianza

A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday evening, we saw Rucca performing at Brianza Gardens and Winery. Their performances are always a lot of fun, but the outdoor venue at Brianza adds an extra enjoyment to their concert. Brianza provides an excellent outdoor stage. There’s music every weekend.

Elizabethtown offers a lovely site for a lunch with a little bit of wine. At Water’s Edge Winery and Bistro, enjoy a tasting of some wines made there from juice from a variety of places and have an exceptional bistro style lunch.

Water’s Edge Wineries are located in a number of states. They are a franchise that offers visitors the chance to try wines from many sources. Try a dry red or white or a fruit wine made there from imported juices while enjoying an excellent lunch.

    • Jun 2ndHuber’s Orchard, Winery and Vineyards

Huber’s Orchard and Winery is an excellent place to visit. They offer restaurants, a cheese shop, an ice cream shop, a farmer’s market, a bakery, a winery, a distillery, and a you-pick farm. We love stopping there anytime, but especially at the end of May. This is the time for fresh strawberries. You can pick your own or buy them at the farmer’s market.

Strawberries are also to be found in the tasting room, with tastes of strawberry wine or strawberry infusion. Both are excellent. Tastes are also available of their wines and spirits.

There is definitely something for everyone. They even have a Family Farm Park so there’s fun for your kids as well. Located just north of Louisville in southern Indiana, Huber’s is a great day trip.

    • May 23rdWineries are waking up

Kentucky, like other states, is experiencing a wake-up from a long, long winter. This year it isn’t just from the weather. Vaccinations are allowing people to feel freer and get back to enjoying their lives. Getting out, going places, and seeing their family and friends. At the same time wineries are welcoming more and more visitors, the vineyards are providing a show with those tiny buds that will grow into grapes as the season progresses.

In our case May has taken us to outdoor concerts at Brianza Gardens and Winery, and an afternoon of wine tasting at Forest Edge Winery and Brooks Hill Winery. We are making plans to visit some new wineries. The future is looking up.
